The New Voting Foundation is currently developing a standardised environment for the development of e-participation applications in the Netherlands. This developer's community, under the name HNS.dev, aims at stimulating the sharing of knowledge and software.
Central to HNS.dev is a data warehouse which facilitates the sharing of information between different e-participation proejcts. The data warehouse consists of an abstract object-oriented database describing the Dutch political system. The database has a dynamic structure enabling the easy writing of data.
The application programming interface (API) is the connection between the database and various e-participation websites. By placing a request this API can for example return information of a politician to a website. Every developer in the Netherlands will thus have the political information at his disposal to use in his website.
To facilitate the project, a website will be developed to support developers which will publish extended documentation about the database and API systems. It will feature tutorials, a testing environment, a wiki, and various toolboxes.
The developers environment will be launched on April 5th, 2009.
