Project: VoteFollow

Job Description: Medior Developer

We're looking for a full-time developer for our new project VoteFollow (Dutch: VolgMijnStem). VoteFollow registers vital political data 24/7 and delivers an objective view on political representatives and parties. Are election promises being delivered? What does my candidate vote during debates? What does (s)he say at local meetings? Where does my tax money go to? What topics are trending during elections and now? VoteFollow aims to answers such questions.

You'll develop cutting edge technology with a multidisciplinary team working with technology (our developer partners, befriended organizations such as MySociety and Sunlight Foundation), politics and media (Sanoma/www.nu.nl). You'll be in contact with specialists in disciplines such as semantical and statistical language technology, agent, scalable systems, bibliometrics and political informatics. We expect you to be capable of maintaining the overview in complex information systems. You'll demonstrate insight, initiative and innovative ideas. We expect you to work the hours we pay you for, but you'll have a lot of freedom. You'll have space to visit conferences and seminars and found a development discipline within our organization. Our headquarters is in Groningen and we have work space (mostly for meetings) in Amsterdam.

Requirements

• Knowledge on python, databases (postgresql, mongodb), API, web development (html, css) & Scrum
• Higher education (Dutch levels: HBO- of WO) in the fields of informatics or artificial intelligence
• > 3 years experience programming in python
• interested in semantical and statistical language technology, agent, scalable systems, bibliometrics and political informatics
• Affinity with the public cause, democracy, transparency and political accountability
• Looking for a stable work environment within a developing public organization
• Available >40 hours a week for >1 year

VoteFollow is initiated by the New Voting Foundation (Het Nieuwe Stemmen - HNS) and Nu.nl (Sanoma). HNS was founded in 2006 by an enthusiastic group of students and young professionals with a passion for politics and the Internet. It seeks to open up new ways of harnessing the power of the Internet to enhance democracy, civil participation and political transparency in the Netherlands, Europe, and beyond. Through our initiatives it wants to drive change through the whole political spectrum.
